Welcome! It’s great to have you here.

Poetry and short stories have always captivated my heart with their ability to encapsulate chaos in a few fine words. Thus, The-Written-Soul became a reality in 2025-not just as a blog but as a form of refuge for those whose lives, at times, find joy in the 'rightness' of words. I am extending my niche to writings that not only speak but also reach far beyond into the quiet aches and unspoken corners of our days.

The-Written-Soul is a place for ordinary life to shine, a where reality and metaphor intertwine like old friends, casting shadows just long enough for you to wonder. The stories I share? Friends, warm, honest, and familiar, aching for a return. The quotes? Not just pretty lines but lifelines. They'll anchor you when you've drifted too far; they won't be noisy updates for this travel news but relatively quiet conversations amidst fellow travelers, binding our shared solace into something resembling kinship.

So, if you find yourself in the rare position of having loved a book so much it felt like a heartbeat, or if you happen to be passing through with a longing for just one quiet moment, please stay a while. Breathe. Let these tiny, gentle words guide you softly into somewhere else. Come, walk with me.

"In discovering who we are, we often walk rocky roads, but it's the uneven paths that shape the strength in our steps and the truth in our soul."

Poetry vs. Poem: What's the Real Difference?

Poem

A poem is one composition, one instance of writing.

  • The individual compositions of poems can take various forms, as seen in the works of Edgar Allan Poe, such as the famous "The Raven" and Maya Angelou, who espouses freedom in "Still I Rise."
  • It has a form, namely lines and stanzas, and employs such techniques as rhyme, meter, and metaphor.

Poetry

Poetry is the broad term for the entire art form or genre.

  • Poetry refers to the entire practice of writing poems, its tradition, and the craftsmanship involved.
  • Poetry embodies its styles, techniques, history, and theory, which are particularly relevant to the making of poems.
  • Poetry, thus, would be the genre, whereas a poem would be an instance of that genre.

In summary

  1. A poem is a piece of writing.
  2. Poetry is the body of works or art forms that describe all poems. Think of a poem as being poetry as a painting is to the art.

What makes a short story different from a novel?

Short stories and novels are like very distant cousins; they share specific characteristics but have distinct rhythms of their own.

The novel takes its time to build a complex plot, rambling endlessly into backstories and expanding into the full-blown terrain of a variety of characters. Not to be hurried. The short story? A snapshot is a captured moment, emotion, or idea condensed into a few 1,000- to 7,500-word sentences; there is no pacing; every word must earn its keep.

While a novel allows you to be immersed in its world, the short story often keeps you lingering at the entrance, where your mind would take over and fill in the missing pieces. The impact is not less, just different. An incredible story impresses, entertains, or gives you a new experience within the time it takes to drink a cup of coffee.

A Sky Painted With You

You are the sunrise painting my skies,
the melody that lifts me to sing.
You are with me now, be it winter's chill or
summer's embrace. Everywhere springs your love.

When shadows stretch and sorrow clings,
golden rays pierce the veil of darkness.
No storm can dim the joy you impart.
In your embrace, my soul finds warmth.

Where My Heart Sings

When I’m in love, it feels like I can soar,
It's like a sweet tune that I can’t get enough of. Your eyes shine like a gentle sun,
Making me feel safe, no matter what comes.

Your touch is warm and melts away
The sadness that I used to feel.
With you, my heart feels full and alive.
Oh, love is where I genuinely feel happy!

I Am Here

I am here, adrift in thoughts of you,
gently meandering down the winding lanes of memory. In each moment, a whisper of us lingers, soft and sweet, like the last light of dusk. I am here, patient as stars awaiting night, ready for the day your heart unfurls to love me.

I am here, where beauty converges,
soul meets soul, and time holds its breath.
You’ll find me in the hush of a cool breeze,
brushing softly against your skin,
in the shimmer of starlight dancing in your eyes. I am here, forever wrapped in the warmth of your love, glowing quietly, a flame that never wanes.
